Natural Organic Reduction

Return to the Earth.

On 142 acres of reclaimed land in the Adirondacks, we offer natural organic reduction — the most dignified, earth-honoring farewell available. Your final act can nourish the land that shaped you.

Our Impact

Death can be an act of generosity.

Human composting uses 1/8th the energy of cremation, produces no toxic emissions, and creates nutrient-rich soil that restores ecosystems. Every person who chooses this path leaves the world better than they found it.

The Process

How it works.

01

Arrangement

We work directly with your family — no funeral home intermediary required. We handle all coordination, paperwork, and transport. Ground transportation is available from New York City, Boston, Philadelphia, and surrounding areas. Our permitting is in progress and expected to clear by fall 2027.

02

The Process

Your loved one is placed in a vessel with native plants and organic material. Over 60 days, natural microbial activity transforms the body into rich soil.

03

The Return

The resulting soil is clean, nutrient-rich, and ready to nourish new life. Your family may take it home, scatter it, or donate it to our land restoration.

Our Home

142 acres in Au Sable Forks, NY.

Our property is a former golf course in the heart of the Adirondacks, actively being restored to native forest. It is not a cemetery. It is a living landscape — and it is part of what we offer.

Land Acknowledgment

We are grateful to practice on land that has been tended for thousands of years.

The land on which we operate sits within the traditional territory of the Haudenosaunee Confederacy — the Mohawk, Onondaga, Cayuga, Oneida, Seneca, and Tuscarora peoples. We acknowledge this history and commit to stewarding this land with the care it deserves.

The Human Compost Company

Returning human remains to the earth — nourishing the soil, honoring the cycle, and giving life one final gift.

Our Mission

Every ending is a beginning.

We believe death can be an act of generosity — a final contribution to the living world.

Land Acknowledgment

The Human Compost Company acknowledges that our 142-acre property in Au Sable Forks sits on the traditional, unceded lands of the Haudenosaunee — the Mohawk, Oneida, Onondaga, Cayuga, Seneca, and Tuscarora nations — who have tended these Adirondack forests, waters, and mountains since time immemorial. We are committed to reciprocity, cultural and climate healing, and the restoration of native ecosystems on this land.
